DAY 2 • DOCTORS AND HEALTH
Healing in the Name of Jesus

What I Have, I Give

“I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” — Acts 3:6

REFLECT

For years a man lame from birth was carried every day to the temple gate called Beautiful to beg. Peter and John had no money to give him. Instead they gave him Jesus. The man leapt to his feet and went into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God. The first individual healing recorded in Acts was an act of mercy to someone society had left at the edge.

Today France faces a profound test of mercy. On 15 July 2026, after years of debate and three rejections by the Senate, the National Assembly voted by 291 to 241 to create a “right” to assisted dying. The Constitutional Council approved the law in August 2026. Many doctors and nurses were deeply troubled. As one group of carers put it, giving death is not care. At the same time, many French people still struggle to find good palliative care at the end of life.

Christians in France are responding with compassion, not only protest. They visit the sick, sit with the dying, support exhausted carers and speak up for the vulnerable.

Pray that the church in France will offer what money cannot buy: the presence, hope and healing of Jesus. Pray that every life will be treated as precious, because every person is made in the image of God.

BLESS — PRAY FOR DOCTORS AND HEALTH

Pray for doctors, nurses, carers and pharmacists who refuse to take part in ending life: for protection of conscience, for courage and compassion, and for good palliative care to be available everywhere in France.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” — Psalm 139:13

CONNECT — FONDATION JOHN BOST

The Fondation John Bost was founded in 1848 at La Force in the Dordogne by Pastor John Bost, a Protestant minister moved by the plight of disabled and incurably ill children for whom nobody else would care. His aim was to welcome, in the name of his Master, those rejected by all.

Today the foundation cares for around 2,000 children, adults and older people living with psychiatric conditions, multiple disabilities or autism, in 42 establishments and services. It has been officially recognised as serving the public good since 1877.

Pray for staff, residents and families, and for Christlike compassion across French healthcare.

UNREACHED PEOPLE — MOROCCAN ARABS

Did you know? Around 453,000 Moroccan Arabs live in France; evangelical believers remain extremely rare.

Pray: Lord Jesus, Great Physician, draw Moroccan families in France to Yourself through dreams, Scripture and the kindness of Christian neighbours, doctors and nurses. Bring them true healing and eternal life. Amen.

CITY SPOTLIGHT — MONTPELLIER

Montpellier, in the southern region of Occitanie, has about 300,000 inhabitants and is one of France’s fastest-growing cities. Its medical faculty received its statutes in 1220 and is widely regarded as the oldest medical school in the Western world still in operation. For centuries Christian, Jewish and Arab scholars shared medical knowledge here. Today the city is a major centre for health and research, and students make up about 28 in every 100 residents. During the Reformation Montpellier was a Protestant stronghold, yet today only a small minority of its people attend any church.

berdoa: Pray for medical students and researchers in Montpellier to meet Christ, and for Christian health workers to shine as witnesses in hospitals and clinics.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3

PROCLAIM — OVER MONTPELLIER AND FRANCE

We bless Montpellier and France in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth: rise up and walk! Every life is precious to God. Let healing, hope and mercy fill your hospitals.
